Why I Have Joined the Workers' Party

For the first time in 15 years I have joined a political party - the Workers' Party.

It is much more difficult to encourage people to join a union nowadays than it was twenty years ago. Until working people are more confident that they can win more rights and until people think more collectively rather than indivdualistically it will be a hard job convincing people that socialism can work. On that basis I voted Alliance in the last General Election but it seems now that the Alliance has collapsed.

I have joined the Workers' Party to help them get the 500 members required so that they can put up candidates on a party list at a General Election. At least there will be a party to vote for that stands up for the workers.

I guess your involvement with grass roots politics has been busy lately?
